Session Members
Elders are ordained members of the congregation who will serve the congregation, usually as a member of session. Elders are ordained for life (unless they are removed from that office), although they only serve on session occasionally. Elders can assist the minister in serving communion. Elders can also serve on the Personnel and Membership committees.

The Office of Deacon
Zion-Olivet Presbyterian Church does not have a board of deacons, but does elect and ordain persons to the office of deacon who work under the authority of the session to serve in the specific role of deacon. The members of the Nominating Committee may ask someone to have his/her name placed in nomination for the office of deacon, but it is really God who calls people to serve. Deacons are elected to office by the congregation.
